Prerequisite: Head-Down Neutral and Stable Body Position.
Desired outcome: Complete controlled turns in both directions and begin and finish accurately on a predetermined heading.
Reference material: IBA Flight Tutorial #47.
Key points:
- Begin centered in neutral and select a visual stopping reference.
- Look and press the shoulder slightly toward the desired rotation while keeping the head aligned with the spine.
- Use the lower portion of the front leg as a rudder when appropriate to the selected position.
- Start with 90-degree turns and increase only after accurate stops.
- Apply an opposing input and return to neutral on the planned heading.
Coaching and safety: Increase rotation in small steps and require stable altitude, center position, and stops before adding speed. Maintain wall and doorway clearance and reinforce when to bail rather than save an unstable turn.
