Back Fly Enter & Exit

Enter into a neutral back-flying position and approach and exit the doorway safely, in control, at the correct altitude, and with minimal instructor assistance.

Prerequisite: Back-fly up and down movement.

Desired outcome: Enter into a neutral back-flying position and approach and exit the doorway safely, in control, at the correct altitude, and with minimal instructor assistance.

Key points:

  • Begin in the doorway with the back toward the airflow and hands on the frame.
  • Ease back with the chin up and torso flat, then release and extend the arms to manage the descent.
  • Push from the floor and use balanced inputs to reach the center.
  • For the exit, point the feet toward the doorway from about three feet above the net, move backward slowly, place the feet on the floor, and use the upper body to rotate upright.

Coaching and safety: Maintain heading with small lower-body corrections and coordinate the entire exercise with the on-duty instructor. The student enters only after receiving the instructor's signal.
