Walking

Walk safely at a neutral wind speed and stop movement in a controlled manner.

Prerequisite: Signed off by an IBA instructor as safe to begin the IBA Flyer Progression.

Desired outcome: Walk safely at a neutral wind speed and stop movement in a controlled manner.

Key points:

  • Maintain a straight vertical posture, chin up, and eyes forward.
  • Begin with small steps and keep body weight on the heels.
  • Lean the upper body opposite the desired direction while keeping the hips over the heels.
  • Use the arms cautiously; too much body pitch can rapidly increase drive.

Coaching and safety: Start near belly-flying wind speeds and increase only after the student demonstrates control. Require the student to stop with room remaining before the wall and brief the back-fly bail procedure before using higher wind speeds.
