Head Down to Head Up Back Flip

Transition from neutral head-down to neutral head-up flight through a controlled back flip without unintended drive or altitude change.

Prerequisite: Stable Head-Down Position on or off the net.

Desired outcome: Transition from neutral head-down to neutral head-up flight through a controlled back flip without unintended drive or altitude change.

Key points:

  • Begin near the center with adequate room behind the flight path.
  • Keep the chin up and bring the knees toward the chest to initiate rotation.
  • Keep the arms relaxed and avoid uncontrolled horizontal drive.
  • Finish in a clearly neutral head-up position.

Coaching and safety: Set the heading, level, stopping reference, and bail before flight. Keep the maneuver away from the doorway and continue smoothly through completion without pausing vertically.
