Head Down Neutral

Fly a neutral head-down position without excessive movement or rotation and demonstrate safe recovery without gripping the net.

Prerequisite: Completed IBA Level 3 Skills.

Desired outcome: Fly a neutral head-down position without excessive movement or rotation and demonstrate safe recovery without gripping the net.

Reference material: IBA Flight Tutorials #42 and #43.

Key points:

  • Set up near the center in the briefed shape while holding the net; release only on the instructor's signal and do not re-grip after release.
  • Maintain a symmetrical shape, straight spine, and hips stacked over the head.
  • Use only the controls appropriate to the selected daffy, shelf, or other instructor-approved position.
  • Demonstrate controlled, intentional movement on the net before progressing off it.
  • Use only the briefed recovery through head-up or neutral back flight.

Coaching and safety: The instructor must brief the setup, staged net release, body position, bail signal and path, spotting limits, and local net procedure. Keep an early flyer within reach and add wind only after control is demonstrated.
