Prerequisite: Neutral and Stable Head Up Position.
Desired outcome: Complete controlled turns in both directions and start and finish accurately on a predetermined heading.
Reference material: IBA Flight Tutorial #31.
Key points:
- Begin in neutral at the center and select the stopping heading before rotating.
- On the net, lean slightly back on the heels; off the net, establish stable lift before initiating the turn.
- Shift a lower leg or foot in the direction of rotation, or angle the arms to deflect airflow.
- Combine upper- and lower-body inputs only after each can be controlled.
- Use the opposite input to stop and keep the rotation centered.
Coaching and safety: Teach one input at a time on or near the net, then combine inputs only after predictable stops. Watch for forward lean, excessive pitch, and drift, and keep the bail path and instructor access clear.
