Prerequisite: Head Up Up and Down Movement.
Desired outcome: Shift sideways in both directions with balanced upper- and lower-body inputs while maintaining heading and altitude.
Reference material: IBA Flight Tutorial #33.
Key points:
- Start in the center or at one side with the path clear of the doorway.
- Lower and bend the leading arm while extending and raising the trailing arm.
- Lower and angle the leading leg while lifting the trailing leg, balancing the upper and lower body to prevent a turn.
- Keep the spine straight and apply the opposing side-slide input early enough to stop before the wall.
Coaching and safety: Establish the direction, references, and stop limit before starting. Teach the input on or near the net, increase speed gradually, and watch for excessive pitch or a late stop.
