Head Up Front Flip

Complete a smooth head-up-to-head-up front flip on a defined level without uncontrolled drive, rotation, or altitude change.

Prerequisite: Head Up Side Slides.

Desired outcome: Complete a smooth head-up-to-head-up front flip on a defined level without uncontrolled drive, rotation, or altitude change.

Reference material: IBA Flight Tutorial #37.

Key points:

  • Begin and finish in a neutral head-up position near the center.
  • Maintain tension from the start of the maneuver without stopping midway.
  • Tuck the upper body between the legs while avoiding the knees collapsing into the chest.
  • Open deliberately and stop in a stable neutral head-up position.

Manual source: Static Progression Coach Manual, Lesson Plan #21.

Coaching and safety: Begin low and at a controlled wind speed, then increase the challenge only after smooth completion and reliable stops. The flyer must continue through a committed transition and use the briefed back-fly recovery if control is lost.
