Prerequisite: Completed IBA Level 1 Flyer Skills.
Desired outcome: Maintain full control in a neutral back-flying position at a neutral wind speed, using heading and forward/backward corrections as needed to remain positioned in the tunnel.
Key points:
- Keep the spine straight and torso flat to the airflow.
- Bend the hips so the thighs are approximately 90 degrees to the torso, then bend the knees approximately 90 degrees.
- Keep the knees shoulder-width apart, press the arms back into the airflow, and keep the chin up.
- Use small, symmetrical corrections to hold heading and position.
Coaching and safety: It is normal to begin at a wind speed that keeps the student on the net until they can control heading and forward/backward movement. Increase speed and altitude only with demonstrated stability.
