Prerequisite: Neutral and stable back-flying position.
Desired outcome: Complete controlled turns in both directions using balanced upper- and lower-body inputs, beginning and ending accurately on a predetermined heading.
Key points:
- Begin and finish in the neutral back-flying position.
- Direct airflow opposite the intended turn using the arms or lower body.
- Keep the torso flat and use the opposite input to stop.
- For advanced turns, coordinate upper and lower body to rotate around the center point; larger inputs create faster rotation.
Coaching and safety: Provide a clear heading reference, teach controlled stops before increasing turn rate, and account for the stronger effect of inputs while the student is on the net.
