Flyer Safety Brief

Establish the shared plan, equipment requirements, communication, and safety expectations before any flight begins.

Purpose: Establish the shared plan, equipment requirements, communication, and safety expectations before any flight begins.

Coordinate with the tunnel instructor:

  • Number of flyers and the skill planned for each student.
  • Required instructor spotting qualification and any special assistance.
  • Known wind speeds and the method for requesting adjustments.
  • Length and order of each flight rotation.

Minimum student briefing:

  • Empty pockets and remove jewelry or other loose articles.
  • Confirm approved, fully fastened flight equipment: one-piece suit, suitable closed footwear, helmet, and goggles; gloves are optional.
  • Review entrance and exit procedures.
  • Explain the selected wind speed and what stability feels like on the net and higher in the chamber.
  • Remain in the briefed flying orientation; do not copy a standing coach unless specifically instructed.
  • If wall contact occurs, hold a strong body position and do not let the wall collapse or reshape it.
  • Explain the tunnel instructor's role, spotting methods, and in-flight hand signals.

Readiness rule: Do not start the session until the student understands the safety points and the coach and tunnel instructor agree on the plan.
